Make a small basket or vessel using plant and man-made fibres. Embellish with natures small delights. Make use of those nuts, seeds, or flowers… or make a container for your collection.
We will combine a variety of fibres and textures into an exposed core and stitch with waxed linen thread. The technique is known as coiling.
Artist Bio:
As a basketmaker/fibre artist, recycling is second nature. Many of my materials are sourced from my garden or those of my friends. I find I view gardens from a different perspective.
I joined Basketmakers of Victoria after my first workshop. At first, I was only interested in “baskets with handles”, but as my skills developed, my interests expanded and I am turning to more sculptural forms.
Construction with coiled basketry techniques is my consuming interest at the moment. Each piece develops its own character, depending on the materials used. A little extra colour is added by wrapping the core or dying the materials.
